Pet Insurance Claim Speed: What Insurers Publish

Claim speed matters when a bill is large, but we have no reliable, comparable measurements of how fast South African insurers actually pay. This page therefore shows only what insurers themselves publish.
How to read this page. Community Vet does not rate insurers and has not tested any insurer's claims. Figures below are taken from the sources named on this page on the date shown. Insurers change plans, prices and rules, so confirm everything with the insurer, in writing, before you pay.
What is published
- MediPet: its FAQ says it aims to process claims in an average of 7 to 10 working days, and pre-approved payments within 4 working days. Incomplete forms or missing documents cause delays, and claims must be submitted within 60 days of treatment.
- Oneplan: its plans page says vet claims are pre-paid through the Oneplan Claim Card. It does not state a turnaround time.
- Other insurers: not verified.

Two stages of a claim
- Pre-authorisation, before treatment: the insurer approves a planned procedure. Ask whether it is offered and how long it takes.
- Payment, after treatment: the money reaches you or your vet. Ask for the usual time, and what documents must be submitted.

- What is the usual time from a complete claim to payment?
- Is there a deadline to submit a claim?
- Can my vet be paid directly, and does my vet accept that?
